Don’t be fooled: Aspartame rebrands as “AminoSweet”

Possibly due to the increased negative press about the side effects of Aspartame consumption, this low calorie sweetener will get a new name. As one of the most controversial food additives in history, it can be found in thousands of sweet tasting foods such as soda, gum, sweeteners, diet and diabetic foods, breakfast cereals, jams, sweets, vitamins and even prescription drugs.

Dr Mercola thought there was enough evidence showing the dangers of consuming artificial sweeteners to fill an entire book – so he wrote Sweet Deception: Why Splenda, NutraSweet, and the FDA May Be Hazardous to Your Health. I encourage you or your loved ones drinking diet beverages or eating diet foods to pick up a copy. It is a great resource that explains the harsh truth behind artificial sweeteners.

Stevia is still my all-time favorite sweetener. It’s totally natural, super sweet and has virtually no calories – making it a great weight loss aid. My kids love it and it lasts forever. I buy a small bottle for about $9 and it lasts me 6 months or more. Stevia can help regulate blood sugar; good for anyone with diabetes and hypoglycemia. Research indicates that it significantly increases glucose tolerance and inhibits glucose absorption. It may decrease your desire for sweets and fatty foods as well as improve digestion, gastrointestinal function and soothe upset stomachs. Stevia inhibits the growth of some bacteria and infectious organisms, including those that cause tooth decay and gum disease. Botanic Choice has a good source of Potent Stevia Extract Powder. Here’s a wonderful way to enhance the flavor of anything you would normally use sugar on; beverages, food, etc., without the calories or harmful side effects!
